As students enter 7th grade, they are moving into a grade of independence. Keeping up with a schedule and having a device to take home make this year challenging for some but rewarding for others. In this grade, students should be ready to begin interacting with class content in a variety of ways, whether that is through video and other resources, working collaboratively with classmates both analogous and digitally, or choosing assessments that allow them to best demonstrate what they know.
Digital Media - Instead of regular writing, allow students the opportunity to create digital media, whether through the use of video or through visual posters. Not only does this type of activity require creativity, it also forces students to think more deeply about a specific topic.
Data and Statistics - Being able to understand and analyze data is a lifelong skill. Besides just presenting information to students, have students gather data about a topic through Google Forms.
Modes of Communication - Students at this age love to communicate (not always in the academic sense). Try using a variety of ways to allow your students to communicate with each other, whether through small group discussion, video, or email.
