By 5th grade, students should have developed an understanding of how to navigate the internet as well as use a variety of tools, such as G Suite tools like Classroom, Docs, Slides, and Drive. Because students have these basics, you can utilize more in-depth activities, allowing you to focus on the content rather than the basics. Students should become comfortable with multiple day projects, accessing documents and information from the previous day.
Multimedia Presentations: While students should still develop writing fluency in both creative writing and academic writing, information should be presented in a variety of ways to a larger audience. Giving students opportunities to share their work through visuals, video, and other formats besides a document can greatly enhance the final product.
Spreadsheets in Math: As students develop number sense and fact fluency, continue to use spreadsheets as a model for introducing different formulas as well as a way to organize, analyze, and interpret data.
Collaboration: Students are growing in their ability to understand G Suite tools and can begin to work together in groups on smaller projects. Utilize these opportunities to have students connect with each other and provide feedback on digital work.
